Porto Marghera: uno scorcio veneziano / a part of Venice
Marghera è un'area della città metropolitana di Venezia, il primo lembo di terra uscendo dal ponte della Libertà che collega il centro storico acqueo alla terraferma. Tra Mestre e Venezia è un luogo dallo spirito libero, vivo e abitato da moltissimi veneziani che vi si sono trasferiti per comodità.
La sua storia lo identifica come un'originario scalo doganale per le merci dirette da e per Venezia, lungo il Canal Salso. Nel tempo ha mantenuto questa sua anima commerciale e durante il 1900 ne ha aggiunta anche una industriale, ma sul finire del secolo è finita questa era e restano solo dei retaggi nella zona del porto. Marghera è composta da due parti: il centro ed il porto commerciale. Il centro di questa area municipale è molto verde, a misura d'uomo e sorge nei primi del 1900 per opera dell' Ingegner Pietro Emilio Emmer, che aveva progettato questo nuovo quartiere urbano per circa 30.000 abitanti. Il programma era quello di una "città-giardino" costituita da ville nel verde, destinate agli operai della vicina zona industriale e portuale. Nel 2018 il Ministero dei Beni Culturali Italiano dichiara questa zona di Marghera di valore storico e da sottoporre a tutela.
Non è sicuramente una zona turistica nel senso standard del termine, ma se vi piace addentrarvi nella storia di Venezia e dei suoi mutamenti qui ci sarà pane per i vostri denti. Nella zona del porto c'è un bellissimo canale interno, dove non sarà improbabile incontrare pescatori o persone locali che con una seggiolina prendono il sole. Se avete la fortuna di trovare una bella giornata vi consiglio di comprarvi una birra al supermercato e sedervi sulla lunga banchina di cemento in Via dell'Azoto, arrivate fino in fondo dove c'è il terminal Costa Crociere e vi assicuro che nonostante la semplicità del luogo sarà valso il viaggio se siete amanti del fascino decadente, di quei luoghi che sembrano fuori dal tempo e dallo spazio.
Il centro invece è tutt'altro che decadente! E' un luogo vivo, verdeggiante, dove potete trovare forti retaggi della venezianità nelle abitudini dei suoi abitanti. In centro ovviamente c'è tutto: supermercati, farmacia, edicole, bar, ristoranti, cicchetterie e il famoso mercato che si tiene di martedì e di sabato. Perdetevi nel suo reticolato di strade e stradine alla caccia di vecchie villette dei primi del novecento che sono solo lì in attesa di qualcuno che se ne innamori ancora una volta e le riporti all'originale splendore. E' una zona sicura, non caotica e veramente a misura d'uomo. E' sicuramente un buon punto di partenza per raggiungere Venezia, che sia via acqua con la barca dal terminal di Fusina (13 euro a persona andata e ritorno), che sia con il tram, il bus o meglio ancora in bicicletta se siete amanti delle attività all'aperto.
Marghera is an area of the metropolitan city of Venice, the first strip of land exiting the Libertà bridge which connects the historic water center to the mainland. Between Mestre and Venice it is a place with a free spirit, alive and inhabited by many Venetians who have moved there for convenience.
Its history identifies it as an original customs port for goods headed to and from Venice, along the Canal Salso. Over time it has maintained this commercial soul and during 1900 it also added an industrial one, but at the last year of the century this era ended and only some legacies remain in the port area. Marghera is made up of two parts: the center and the commercial port. The center of this municipal area is very green, on a human scale and was built in the early 1900s by the engineer Pietro Emilio Emmer, who had designed this new urban neighborhood for around 30,000 inhabitants. The program was built a "garden city" made up of villas surrounded by greenery, intended for the workers of the nearby industrial and port area. In 2018 the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage declared this area of Marghera to be of historical value and to be subject to protection.
It is certainly not a tourist area in the standard sense of the term, but if you like delving into the history of Venice and its changes, there will be something for you here. In the port area there is a beautiful internal canal, where it will not be unlikely to meet fishermen or local people sunbathing with a chair. If you are lucky enough to find a nice day I recommend you buy a beer at the supermarket and sit on the long concrete platform in Via dell'Azoto, get to the end where is the Costa Crociere's terminal and I assure you that, despite the simplicity of the place, will be worth the trip if you love decadent charm, those places that seem out of time and space.
The center however is anything but decadent! It is a lively, green place, where you can find strong Venetian legacies in the habits of its inhabitants. Obviously there is everything in the centre: supermarkets, pharmacies, newsagents, bars, restaurants, cicchetterie and the famous market which is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Lose yourself in its network of streets and alleys in search of old villas from the early twentieth century that are just there waiting for someone to fall in love with them once again and restore them to their original splendor. It is a safe area, not chaotic and truly on a human scale. It is certainly a good starting point for reaching Venice, whether by water with the boat from the Fusina terminal (13 euros per person return), whether by tram, bus or better yet by bicycle if you love outdoor activity.

Se avete voglia di provare una classica osteria veneziana, dove bere un'ombra ovvero un piccolo calice di vino e assaggiare o un mix di cicchetti o un vero e proprio pasto... questo è decisamente il posto giusto. Aspettatevi un'accoglienza cordiale, ma verace. E' un posto amato dagli abitanti locali, dove sentirete parlare molto dialetto veneziano, ma che conserva al tempo stesso un'anima di internazionalità. La proposta dei cicchetti è veramente varia e vi toccherà girare più volte il banco che si estende su tre lati per trovare i vostri preferiti. Una chicca divertente: tutto il personale indossa una tshirt con scritto sulla schiena la frese " se gavevo tre man avoravo al circo" tradotto "se avevo tre mani lavoravo al circo"; perciò prendetela con filosofia, ironia e sono sicura vi divertirete.
If you want to try a classic Venetian tavern, where you can drink an "ombra" that is to say a small glass of wine and taste either a mix of cicchetti or a real meal... this is definitely the right place. Expect a friendly but genuine welcome. It is a place loved by the local inhabitants, where you will hear a lot of Venetian dialect spoken, but which at the same time retains an international soul. The selection of cicchetti is truly varied and you will have to turn the counter which extends on three sides several times to find your favourites. A fun gem: all the staff wear a t-shirt with the phrase written on the back "se gavevo tre man avoravo al circo" translated "if I had three hands I worked at the circus"; so take it philosophically, ironically and I'm sure you'll have fun.

Se il Sabato mattina che è giorno di mercato, volete immedesimarvi in un vero veneziano, vi consiglio di andare in questa rosticceria che ha tavoli sia dentro che fuori. Prima di accomodarvi fate un giro al banco, scegliete una prelibatezza ( sono famosissimi per tramezzini, mozzarelle in carrozza e polpette), ordinate uno bello spritz e godetevi il vostro aperitivo di tutto rispetto. Frequentato da gente locale, che molto spesso parla anche il dialetto locale, verrete accolti al meglio in questo ambiente folcloristico e veramente tipico. Con meno di 10 euro ( spritz, mozzarella e tramezzino) uscirete sazi e soddisfatti. Se siete a dieta non è per voi :)
If on Saturday morning which is market day, you want to identify with a true Venetian, I recommend you go to this rotisserie which has tables both inside and outside. Before sitting down, take a tour of the counter, choose a delicacy (they are very famous for sandwiches, mozzarella in carrozza and meatballs), order a nice spritz and enjoy your respectable aperitif. Frequented by local people, who very often also speak the local dialect, you will be welcomed in the best possible way in this folkloristic and truly typical environment. With less than 10 euros (spritz, mozzarella and sandwich) you will leave full and satisfied. If you're on a diet it's not for you :)

Locale con un'offerta gastronomica buona, ottima selezione di vini, in cui farsi consigliare e accompagnare. Ambiente curato con arredamento contemporaneo, conto medio ( non economico) ed ideale per una serata in cui farsi una coccola. Il proprietario Nicola è un vero appassionato ed una persona con cui fare una chiacchierata piacevole. Uno dei miei posti preferiti a circa 15 minuti a piedi dall'appartamento.
A place with a good gastronomic offering, an excellent selection of wines, where you can get advice and accompaniment. Nice environment with contemporary furnishings, medium bill (not cheap) and ideal for an evening in which to pamper yourself. The owner Nicola is a true enthusiast and a person to have a pleasant chat with. One of my favorite places about 15 minutes walk from the apartment.

Una scelta sicura, qualità prezzo, che non delude.

Se la pizza è una delle vostre passioni, quella di questa catena italiana, va sicuramente provata! Sono famosi per la pizza al metro che è davvero molto buona, super croccante e gustosa, ma se la cavano benissimo anche con le pizze in formato normale. Non resterete delusi.
If pizza is one of your passions, this Italian chain's pizza is definitely worth a try! They are famous for their pizza by the meter which is really very good, super crunchy and tasty, but they also do very well with regular size pizzas. You won't be disappointed.
AMIA GASTRONOMIA VEGETALE

Piccola gastronomia vegana in zona centralissima, facilmente raggiungibile a piedi. Pietanze take away sane e gustose, ma soprattutto propone un'edizione completamente green e molto buona dei classici cicchetti veneziani per eccellenza: mozzarella in carrozza e tramezzini. Consigliatissima.

E' un luogo che ha un'atmosfera speciale ed è molto vivo, apprezzato dai locali e non solo. Se vi piace il mondo birra qui troverete pane per i vostri denti.
The slightly underground pub, with a vast selection of beers and some snacks to accompany. The owner is a true enthusiast, himself a producer. It is a place that has a special atmosphere and is very alive, appreciated by locals and beyond. If you like the world of beer you will find something for you here.

Locale carino dalla colazione all'aperitivo serale. Esattamente in piazza offre dal cappuccino al calice di vino e lo fa decisamente bene. Ideale per fare colazione dato che è attaccato alla fermata dell'autobus S. Antonio da cui parte la Linea 6 e 6L, ogni 10 minuti circa. A pranzo fanno anche tranci di pizza, polpette, tramezzini, panini e qualche piatto veloce.
Nice place from breakfast to evening aperitif. Exactly in the square it offers from cappuccino to a glass of wine and does it very well. Ideal for breakfast as it is attached to the S. Antonio bus stop from which lines 6 and 6L leave approximately every 10 minutes. For lunch they also make slices of pizza, meatballs, sandwiches, sandwiches and some quick dishes.
PASTICCERIA MILADY

La pasticceria per eccellenza, i migliori croissant della zona, in tantissimi gusti e formati diversi. Sotto Natale consiglio panettoni e focacce, mentre nel periodo di carnevale come da tradizione locale, andateci e assaggiate la moltitudine di frittelle proposte, tutte buonissime. La mia frittella preferita: la classica "veneziana" con pinoli e uvetta, indimenticabile.
The top pastry shop, the best croissants in the area, in many different flavors and formats. During Christmas I recommend panettone and focaccia, while during the carnival period, as the local tradition wants, go there and taste the multitude of frittelle on offer, all delicious. My favorite frittella: the classic "Venetian" with pine nuts and raisins, unforgettable.

A pochissimi minuti a piedi dall'appartamento, la gelateria per eccellenza. Aperta da metà pomeriggio a tarda serata è il luogo ideale dove trovare un attimo di refrigerio soprattutto nella calura estiva tipica della città di Venezia, dato l'alto tasso di umidità. Andate e il vostro dilemma più grande sarà che gusto, cono o coppetta.
A few minutes walk from the apartment, the best ice cream shop. Open from mid-afternoon to late evening, it is the ideal place to find a moment of refreshment, especially in the summer heat typical of the city of Venice, given the high level of humidity. Go and your biggest dilemma will be which flavor, cone or cup.
MOLO CINQUE

Se siete festaioli e vi piace ballare, comoda al centro è questa storica discoteca aperta solitamente il Venerdì ed il Sabato sera. Propone musica di vario genere a seconda delle serate ed il club offre anche la possibilità di cenare al ristorante adiacente, facente parte sempre della stessa proprietà. La zona è tranquilla, essendo però adiacente all'area portuale meglio prendere un taxi per andata e ritorno, stando in generale all'occhio. Se andate in macchina come è sempre buona regola, non lasciate nulla a vista all'interno.
If you are a party animal and like to dance, this historic nightclub is conveniently located in the center, usually open on Friday and Saturday evenings. It offers various types of music depending on the evening and the club also offers the possibility of dining at the adjacent restaurant, which is also part of the same property. The area is quiet, however being adjacent to the port area it is better to take a taxi there and back, generally being careful. If you go by car, as is always a good rule, don't leave anything visible inside.
